Maths

“Can I have a Maths question?” is the oft-repeated request from our younger pupils. That’s because we love the subject. The staff work hard to differentiate between our advanced mathematicians and those who require more support.

We concentrate on building an understanding of the basic processes of Maths; we value the repetition in our learning of tables. We learn to develop confidence and understanding in Maths through play, songs and rhymes, games and practical activities. We allow the children the opportunity to research and explore mathematical problems and we teach them how to set down their work on paper or on the Chromebooks with clarity and accuracy.

In the upper years we offer extra tuition to those taking the Kent Test, but we prepare all of our pupils for the Maths challenges they will face in their next schools. The vast majority of our children exceed national expectations and many reach Level 5 and beyond by the end of Prep 6.
