“Can I have a maths question?” is the oft-repeated request from our younger pupils.
That is because we love the subject. The staff work hard to differentiate between our advanced mathematicians and those who require more support.
“I like Maths because it’s hard,” says another pupil. “Then again, I like a challenge!”
We concentrate on building an understanding of the basic processes of maths; we value the repetition in our learning of tables. We learn to develop confidence and understanding in maths through play, songs and rhymes, games and practical activities.
We allow the children the opportunity to research and explore mathematical problems and we teach them how to set down their work on paper or the computer screen with clarity and accuracy.
In the upper years we offer extra tuition to those preparing for 11+ but will prepare all pupils for the important exams that will take them on to their next schools. The vast majority of our children exceed national expectations and many reach Level 5 and beyond by the end of Year 6.
If you have any questions to ask the Maths Department then Mr Dankert will only be too pleased to hear from you.
