Children progress to the Giraffes class in the September following their third birthday. Here children are supported by an experienced Early Years Teacher and team of staff.
A balanced programme of activities alongside learning through play and exploration allow the children to grow in confidence while developing their core skills and independence.
The Giraffes class consists of two rooms and a dedicated outside area. The larger of the two rooms is used mainly for messy play, imaginative play and construction. Smaller group work takes place in the ‘quiet room’. The children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and move freely from room to room as they carry out different activities. Alongside their music lesson they are introduced to PE and French lessons, with teachers who teach throughout the school. The children use the Library and Dining Hall and, in the Summer term, join the Reception and KS1 children for the lunch playtime, allowing them to develop friendships with both older children and teachers in the main School.
“The staff are always cheerful and well presented and most importantly they really care about the welfare, happiness and development of the children in their care. There is a wonderful emphasis on outdoor play and the garden is child heaven! Our son loves going on nature walks, the art activities and the music class he attends. We feel very lucky to have found such a special place for our children to play, learn and grow.”
